There are many legal service providers willing to represent low-income seniors at risk of eviction for low to no cost. There are also one-shot deal programs that offer emergency assistance to those unable to pay rent due to an unexpected situation or event

In New York City, Eviction Prevention Assistance is administered through Human Resources Administration Office of Civil Justice at several housing courts throughout the city. Seniors who have received a notice of eviction are eligible for special assistance and legal referrals. https://www1.nyc.gov/nyc-resources/service/1081/eviction-prevention-assistance

  Here are some options for Bay Area Seniors:

1.      Legal Assistance to the Elderly (For San Francisco Residents) www.laesf.org assists seniors or the disabled when facing eviction, elder abuse, problems with public benefits or creditors. Call (415) 538-3333 to conduct an intake.

 

2.      East Bay Community Law Center provides assistance with housing issues including defense of eviction/unlawful detainer cases, section 8/Housing Authority termination hearings, rent board hearings, general counseling on tenants’ rights, or representation in lawsuits against housing providers,
